Atlantic have reliable fuel supply partners for the common diesel, petrol, heating oil, red diesel types of hydrocarbon fuels. Costs can be reduced by buying in bulk from tankers delivered direct to large storage tanks. (Supplies of piped natural gas and electricity are dealt with in another section of our website).
We also can source alternative energy sources in line with our Environmental Policy to reduce our clients carbon footprint. There are a variety of low Carbon Methyl Esthers from Rapeseed, soy, used cooking oil, Palm oil, etc which can be added to or replace diesel. A lot of diesel purchased in the U.K. already has a 5% mix of biodiesel and is known as a B5 blend i.e. 5% of biodiesel. The U.K.is behind Germany and other north European countries in the supply of biodiesel.
We are also researching and will be introducing new forms of low carbon liquid fuels for powering vehicles and equipment for reducing the amount of fuel required for a specified journey. Motor manufacturers are studying separate and interesting routes to achieve reductions in Carbon fuels.
Audi diesel cars can be run on B5.
Mercedes are introducing new exhaust technology which breaks emissions down to harmless nitrogen and water.
Saab is offering a car which runs on 15% petrol and 85% bioethanol fuel from sugarbeet.
Vauxhall continue with LPG conversions to add to their petrol engined cars, this saves some excise tax but little Carbon emissions.
Volvo is following a compressed natural gas route. This is a genuinely green alternative.
BMW have opted in Germany for a tanked hydrogen alternative in their new 7 series.
(In Germany hydrogen gas is easier to obtain and eventually a car sized cracker of water
into hydrogen and oxygen may one day be available).
Lexus has produced a hybrid that has petrol and electric motors incorporated, although its emissions and inefficiency are high.
The Toyota Prius has a 1.5 litre petrol engine and substantial batteries for town use.
All electric vehicles suffer from battery weight and short duration issues.
It can be seen therefore that whatever fuels are being consumed today, there are new types developing fast, many of which have low or negligible Carbon footprints. Ironically electric vehicles are being charged in the U.K. by power stations using largely fossil fuels!
Atlantic Business Resources will be in the forefront of these new fuels with their chosen partners.
Atlantic Business Resources have two pieces of retrofit equipment which can save hydrocarbon fuel, to reduce a clients Carbon footprint and save money:1. The first comprises an LPG gas tank mounted behind the cab of a diesel truck and a special mixing valve that introduces a supply of gas into the diesel vapour. The manufacturers claim fuel reductions of between 15% and 25%. It has so far been tested and used comprehensively in Australia and its use is spreading in the U.K. The process saves costs by part using LPG which is considerably cheaper that diesel, saves engine wear as the mixture burns cleaner than diesel alone, emitting less nitrous oxide, less CO2, less carbon monoxide, and should on average pay for itself in one year.
2. The second piece of equipment comprises of a small catalyst in a container dropped in to the fuel tank or in a small housing in the fuel line between tank and the injector pump .
It has a life of 250,000 miles, or 5000 hours and in tests has been proven to achieve 11% fuel savings, mainly due to the reduction of the gas carbon dioxide, reductions of nitrous oxide by 13%, Particulate matter by 18%. There was also reduction in the levels of total hydrocarbons of 9%, Carbon monoxide of 17% and Carbon dioxide by 11%.
